Nota d'usoNon è corretto tradurre letteralmente l'espressione non è il caso con “it's not the case”, che significa non è vero. Esistono diversi modi di dire equivalenti a “non è il caso”, che possono variare a seconda del contesto: Non è il caso di piangere (non c'è bisogno), there is no need to cry; Non è il caso che cucini per noi (non disturbarti), don't bother cooking for us; Non è il caso di bere prima di guidare (non dovresti), you shouldn't drink before driving. -

Nota d'usoQuando viene utilizzato per indicare il caso possessivo (il cosiddetto “genitivo sassone”), l'apostrofo viene spesso messo nel posto sbagliato. Si può evitare di commettere errori se ci si pone la domanda “di chi è? a chi appartiene?” oppure “di chi sono? a chi appartengono?”, perché l'apostrofo va messo immediatamente dopo la parola che costituisce la risposta a questa domanda.
